On the 6th of August Anri Bester Gerber presented the wines of Wildekrans to us. Anri’s tastings are always brilliant, filled with viticulture, farm and winemaking information. You feel like you are at the farm, with the winery and the vineyards just outside. We were not to be disappointed, and once again, Anri gave us a memorable experience. Wildekrans in Bot Rivier with its cold climate certainly lends itself to the making of some very fine wines. Thanks for a great tasting, Anri you made us feel very special with all your lovely knowledge of the farm, the people and the wines. The blend had us all talking, with some saying drink now before it passes and others saying nope still has time to go, this wine will get even better. Top wine the Barrel Select Pinotage, followed by the blend and third the Estate Pinotage. The Cap Classique was special too, even with the low score, but needs to be mentioned. Chenin was one of the first grapes to be used for MCC in the Kaapse Vonkel of Simonsig and it shows well as a MCC grape, like it did in the tasting. Thanks kindly to Anri for bringing Wildekrans back to us and for such a lovely tasting.
