On the 20th of August Lieza van der Heever (van der Merwe) from Merwida came to present her wines to us. It is always great to have people from the farms as they are great at telling you the stories behind the farm, about their families that run the farm and how they make the wines. Lieza is a Cape Wine Master and the person at the farm that is involved in new product development, marketing and was part of the winemaking team. Her family has farmed Merwida since 1840, quite a legacy! The Papenskuil wines have lovely hand drawn pictures of the flowers that they have on their labels to highlight their amazing and unique flora heritage of the area. The van der Merwe’s are all about heritage and their dedication to the conservation of the beautiful area that they live in. They are not just farmers and winemakers but custodians of the area they live in, conserving the flora and fauna to be found there. That is incredible, well done, embracing biodynamic conservation in all its forms! But, also incredible is the amazing value for money of these wines which are very affordable, for their excellent quality. Top wine was the Pinotage, followed by the Pierre van der Merwe Chenin Blanc and third was the Sauvignon Blanc. A great tasting, presented by a lovely lady, that has great passion for her wines, family and farm. Thanks Lieza for a really good tasting, we enjoyed having you at Vats and hope to see you back again soon!!
